Supported hardware
What we have actually tested, what we have only built for, and what will not work.
Most hardware pages are a column of checkmarks. This one is not.
A device is only marked Verified once someone has connected the physical thing and completed the flow on it. Where the integration is written but nobody has plugged one in, it says Untested — it may well work, and we would rather you knew which was which before you spent money. Today that is 3 of 14 on the iPad app and 3 of 12 on the web register.
Three ways to lay out a counter
The $ marks every screen that can ask the customer for a tip. You choose one in Settings → POS.
Screenless reader + customer display
The M2 has no screen of its own, so the tip is asked on the iPad facing the customer. The only setup that also catches tips on cash.
Customer display + reader with a screen
Both screens can ask. Pick one in Settings → POS — asking on both would prompt the customer twice.
Reader with a screen, on its own
No second iPad. The reader asks on its own screen, and cash sales fall back to the register.
Registers
The screen the cashier works on. Everything else hangs off this choice.
iPad Pro

Runs the native app. The register layout is built for this width.
iPad (10th gen and newer)

Same app and the same size class as the Pro; no one has run it on this model.
iPad mini (6th gen)

Best as the customer-facing display. As a register it is narrow — use landscape.

Card readers
All card payments run through Stripe Terminal. Which reader you own decides where the customer is asked for a tip.
Stripe Reader S700

Built against Terminal SDK 2.23.x and discovered over the network. Nobody has taken a payment on one. On the web register a reader can pair and show as connected but cannot charge.
BBPOS WisePOS E

Same path as the S700. This is the reader that can ask for the tip on its own screen.
Stripe Reader M2
Stripe · Bluetooth
The app only discovers network readers today, and the M2 is Bluetooth. Pair it with an iPad mini as the customer display and collect tips there instead.

Receipt printers
Printing is driven from the server, so it does not depend on which register you use.
Browser / system print
Any printer your OS can see
The fallback that always works on a computer. No cash-drawer kick.
Star CloudPRNT

The printer polls us for jobs, so it needs no local driver. Endpoint is built; no one has hung a real printer off it.
Epson ePOS (network)
Epson · TM series
Jobs are pushed to the printer by IP address on the local network.
Generic network ESC/POS
Most thermal printers
Raw ESC/POS over the network. Covers most 80mm thermal printers.
Peripherals
Everything else on the counter.
Cash drawer
Printer-driven, RJ11/RJ12
Opened by a kick pulse sent through the receipt printer, so it needs one of the ESC/POS printers above — not the browser print path.
Barcode scanner
Any keyboard-wedge USB or Bluetooth
Scanners that type act like a keyboard, which is what the register listens for. No driver, no pairing step.
Customer-facing display
A second iPad or browser tab
Any second screen signed into the same location. Mirrors the cart live and can collect the tip.
